Audio Issues in High-Performance Network Musical Collaborations
Brian Shepard, USC

As access to high-performance networks becomes more commonly available, schools, universities, and performing organizations are examining the potential for their use in the fine and performing arts. A particularly problematic issue in this arena is the quality of the transmitted sound needed for high-level musical collaborations. This presentation will examine some of the critical issues related to sound and audio in musical collaborations via high-performance networks with particular focus on audio frequency quality and echo control. Included in the presentation will be a demonstration of EchoDamp, the audio-mixing and echo-control software Shepard created specifically for the high-performance network, sound-critical VTC environment, and available free to educational and non-profit performing arts institutions.
